Eliminating Polymorphism
Eliminating polymorphism is one of the most pressing concerns for formulators of pharmaceutical products. Polymorphism occurs when drugs change from one crystalline or amorphous form to another resulting in differences in bioavailability which can lead to inconsistencies in therapeutic effect. In some cases, this transformation can occur during storage of the finished dosage form and there have been a number of publicised cases in recent years.
By loading drugs onto Rohm and Haas Functional Polymers, this instability can be eliminated by creating a stable amorphous form, and so provide reliable, consistent drug properties. The amorphous nature of of these materaals has been demonstrated in a recent, specially commissioned study.
Products Guidelines
Drugs with cationic functionality (e.g. -COOH or Na / K salts)
Drugs with anionic functionality (-NH2, HCl salts etc.)
