Aminoglycosides
First isolated in 1944 by Selman Waksman from a soil fungus , the aminoglycoside antibiotics covered a range of important antibiotics such as Streptomycin, Neomycin, Tobramycin, kanamycin, opramycin etc. Primarily used against Gram-negative bacteria although they are often combined with beta-lactam antibiotics to give a broader efficacy against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.
Amberlite™ IRC50 has been the product of choice for the recovery step in these process for a number of years. In addition, further purification can be achieved by using a decolourisation step either pre- or post- main column or by the use of a small particle media. This is particularly important as the aminoglycoside antibiotics can occur in a number of different forms (e.g. Tobramycin A, B, C) of which only one form will be sufficiently active.
Products Guidelines:
- Recovery : Amberlite™ FPC3500
- Decolourisation : Amberlite™ FPA90 Cl, Amberlite™ FPA40 Cl
- Chromatographic separation : Amberlite™ CG50 Type 1, Amberchrom™
